2023 Volunteer Training March
We will be holding Mentor and Horse Development training sessions on Saturdays in March from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Saturdays. If you would like to volunteer at the ranch in any capacity, call Meaghan at 307-0851-3709 to schedule your training sessions. Mentors are required to receive 8 hours of training prior to working with children and youth, and will have ongoing training prior to sessions beginning and along with the Wrangler program. Horse Development volunteers require 4-8 hours depending on experience, with ongoing training as needed. Mentors and Horse Development volunteers are eligible to participate in clinics, when available. If you are interested in volunteering as a Horsekeeper, training can be scheduled at your convenience.

Open Hand Ranch is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. There is no charge for the children to participate in our program. Therefore, we are dependent on God and His people to partner with us in providing the means and the manpower necessary to accomplish the work set before us. There are several ways you can partner with us.
Volunteer
There are numerous ways you can volunteer:
Prayer - the single most important way to help. Absolutely nothing on the ranch will succeed without prayer. This is God's ranch and His work, therefore, we depend entirely on His Spirit to accomplish His work. Sign up for our quarterly e-newsletter, Rendezvous, at openhandranch@gmail.com to receive our prayer requests. Use Rendezvous in the subject line.
Maintenance/building- the development of the ranch is ongoing. We always need help with building projects and the maintenance of our facilities.
Parent/guardian ministry - parents and guardians of the children are often hurting. We need volunteers who can come alongside them to listen and pray.
Transportation ministry - some families lack the ability to bring their children to the ranch. We are in need of volunteers who can give of their time and treasure to transport these families to and from the ranch.
Landscaping - Green thumbs welcome! We need lots of help maintaining flower beds and keeping things looking nice. Weeds really like it here, but the flowers and trees need encouragement!
Fundraising - If you have a knack for fundraising and connecting with people and businesses that would be willing to contribute to the work of the ranch, we need you. We plan to hold one or two fundraising events each year, including an open house and a Potato bake. Other ideas are welcome!
Office - There's a lot of paperwork that needs keeping track of. If you have great organizational skills and enjoy paperwork, we could sure use you.
Webmaster - If you're great with computers and working with the internet, your skills would be greatly appreciated here. Maintaining and updating a website is so important in this day and age. Often the first contact someone has with the ranch is on our website or facebook page. It is extremely important that the information is up to date and accurate, as well as organized.
Newsletter - Our quarterly e-newsletter, Rendezvous, lets our supporters know what's new at the ranch; what progress has been made on building projects, stories of the horses, and how God is working in the hearts of the children and staff. Our newsletter also contains our current prayer requests. If writing is your passion, we'd love to have your help with this important ministry.
Photographer - Documentation of our work helps our supporters to connect with the children and horses and gives them an understanding of the work they are contributing to. This important position also helps to advertise what the ranch is about; to show the community what God is doing in healing kids and horses, and to invite them to participate.
Craftmaster - If you are gifted in arts and crafts, we've got a job for you! Crafts can reinforce lessons learned in sessions, or can be just for the fun of it. Some crafts will be to the benefit of the ranch, others for the children to take home. This is an occasional position, not necessarily for every session.
Custodian - Working with horses is dirty business. If you love cleaning, (and I know there are some of you who do) we could sure use someone in charge of cleaning out the tack shed, the office, the meeting area and barn and such.
HorseKeepers - HorseKeepers help keep our horses well cared for. They clean corrals, groom horses, and may take on a feeding shift, as well as hold horses for hoofcare. Training in basic horse handling is provided. A great job to take on for a family!
Hay Crew - want a good workout, but the gym's closed? Or you don't want to pay the membership? We need help bucking bales throughout the summer and to put up hay for winter (a big job!) Let us know if this is something you'd like to help with.
Mentors, Wranglers, and Teen Leaders
Anyone with a heart for reaching kids for Christ is welcome. We will provide the training. A background check is required, as well as a commitment of at least two hours per week for the June-July, or September-October sessions season. Please email Meaghan at mcrane@openhandranch.org for an application or download Mentor, Wranglers, and Session applications. Release Forms are required to be filled out by all our volunteers and program participants. Teen Leader applications are for teens 15-18 who would like to work as assistants to mentors and help with the ongoing training and care of the horses. Teen Leaders help with tack and facilities maintenance, horse care and maintenance, including that of injured or sick horses, grooming, as well as helping with sessions games and chores.
